Buttons Only
Fashion, 3D Denim
I got a card blanche chance to create a video for 3D Denim. I had the idea of making a video with only jeans buttons.
1 week of ideation and waiting on the 2500 custom ordered G-Star Raw jeans buttons.
2 weeks on my knees in a dark tent in the middel of the warehouse
And there you have it a 30 sec stop motion video containing 2500 buttons from G-Star Raw jeans.
Impressed my colleagues with the work. The video was shown in all stores worldwide, featured at Europe’s biggest Denim even the Bread and Butter.
They also showed it during the kickoff at the yearly company day.

It was a real journey making this video. Starting with getting an idea of the scale of the stop motion plane, the amount of buttons that were needed, a location and more.
We first created a 2d/3D version of the animation in Adobe After Effects and Cinema 4D.
When we got the animations right we found a location in the G-Star HQ’s Main Storage area that was big enough.
We set up a black tent with an overhead frame that could hold a projector and a camera next to it.
We then rendered an image sequence of the preview animation and projected those on the floor.
The only thing remaining was moving the buttons and composite the animation. It took us two weeks on our knees to finish the stop motion
