Mon'O Kimono

The main reason we cal l Mon’O a  research and design brand is starting without knowing what’s needed to design your own t-shirt. Taking it step by step.
When the idea for a kimono based t-shirt manifested the next step was finding someone who could take our sketch to a physical pattern.
Via Linkedin we found fashion desginer Mevan Kaluarachchi who helped creating  the patterns that were needed.

Next up was finding fabrics. Having no clue of all the nuances of different materials it took a few visits to the local fabric market just to feel all the different fabrics and trying to understand the differences between them. Learning how to make tech packs and illustrating them.
While getting a better idea of what were usable fabrics and the pros and cons of each of them, finding production companies and asking for samples was a daily task.

Finally we sourced fabrics from Germany and India to sent to Italy for production.
